Google was testing new RSS Adsense in Longhornblogs., the feed works fine in both RSS reader and Blogline’s services. I was wondering that How Bloglines’s RSS advertising business to compete with Adsense? Even if they didn’t launch it yet.
With site-targeted advertising, advertisers set a maximum CPM bid - that is, the price they are willing to pay for every thousand impressions - and pay on a per-impression basis. This means that, unlike pay-per-click ads, you’ll earn revenue each time a CPM ad is displayed on your site. For every eligible impression, both pay-per-impression ads and pay-per-click ads compete in the same auction. Our technology will automatically display the highest performing ads on your pages.
Because of these new features available for advertisers, the number of image ads in the Google advertising network will grow. To take advantage of these ads, and the increased earnings potential that they offer, we encourage you to review your image ads preference in your AdSense Account Settings page.
You can also choose your image ads preference on a format-by-format basis when generating your ad code. For publishers who want to fully leverage image ads, we now provide an image ads only selection.

From Tony Perkins’ hardcopy report AlwaysOn, the blogazine of innovation, in which he discusses Bill Gates comments on blogging during a private dinner at Gates home on Lake Washington.
“Blogging makes it very easy to communicate. It gets away from drawbacks of email and the drawbacks of a website. Eventually, most businesses will use blogs to communicate with customers, suppliers and employees, because it’s two-way and more satisfying.”
And Tony add
“Gates knows that the referral power of the blogosphere is also exploding and marketing and PR executives must embrace this reality or risk losing control of their messages.”

These days, blogosphere talks about Folksonomy, Technorati tags and social software services all the time, it's really sparkle. and it makes me started writing of these trends on my Chinese blog. I had spent some time thinking of using a creative way to implement this terrific tag system in our real life!
Technorati's tag system aggregate contents from three sources, individual blog posts come from over 5M blogs which technorati are tracking at. del.icio.us - a social bookmarking system and Flickr - a photo sharing community.
Then I got the idea when I was standing behind the Starbucks with holding a cup of coffee: "10 Places of My City". By using Technorati tag system to encourage bloggers to showcase the top 10 places of their own city (Thanks Andrea first defined this movement in english for me).
Everyone lives in their own city have some favorite places, these kind of places maybe not a famous sight, likely a coffee shop, a library, a park or even a grocery store (I know someone really enjoyed grocery shopping). The idea was really simple: share your 10 favorite places in your blog, embed Technorati tags "10placesofmycity", if there are any pictures show up these places, upload them to flickr by tagging as "10placesofmycity", and even more, any links related to your favorite places, collect them to "10placesofmycity" in del.icio.us.
Actually the idea continues from the weciti concpt, a Chinese group/community blog focus on writing the best of localities which we launched a year ago. Blog in China is not very popular at that time, a few of pioneer Chinese bloggers joined this community to share their localities and activities. All of us are really enjoyed this blogging experience, we had initialed the first 2003 Chinese blog award base on this community, cooperate with other blog communities, such as Cnblog.org, Living in China and other major Chinese Blog service providers.
Everything is going smoothly, more and more bloggers joined with great blogging posts. The community had some interviews with media, newspaper, even create a column on a Local City Magazine. But the community suffered a serious disaster, the web hosting server had a hard-drive fail, that most of our works and posts were gone. we were keep sending our requests for their backup, but no answers, couple weeks later, the hosting company run a way out of business and we lost everything. Sounds really sucks, right! Like some old stories, we had start over again, invite people, create new sites, but even ourself were getting lost our passions. then the community somehow never back again.
Review of this story, I figure out some points why our first attempt to build up a community blog was failured. First, there's not enough devoted people constantly working and tracking on the project, Bloggers who has been invited to author group more intent to write on their own blog rather than a community blog, most of time, it's a copy-paste reactions. also we were sufferring the loose of organize, this kind of interacctive style works fine with individual bloggers but not for a community. Again, there few tools can be used at that time, for some bloggers with technical backgrounds, MovableType is powerful enough to get things well done. but for most of common bloggers, who even thinks that set up a single web page is tough works may not interest to learn how to use MT or HTML. More important, most of the help guide and information and English, not Chinese.
After year of tremendous progress on Blogosphere and Social Software, Web services like del.icio.us, flickr, TypePad is providing diversify functions which makes Blogger's online social experience becomes more easier and user-friendly. Users can share photos by flickr, exchange links by del.icio.us, build and publish blogs by powerful platform or Blog service providers. and then, Technorati tags with folksonomy trends makes thing even more sweet.
All of these above makes "10 Places of My city" to be easy adopted by individual bloggers. Three days after initialed this idea, over 20 Chinese blogger from all over the world joined and blogged "10 places of my city". It's really interesting to see that some of them are living in the same city, sharing their favorite places with intersections. Look at the 10placesofmycity on Technorati, bloggers come from different major cities in China such as Beijng, Shanghai, Chengdu, Xi'an, Wuhan, Xiamen etc, were sharing local experiences. Some of them wrote as a love story with emotional sense, reviewed most sweet places in their memory. I saw a blogger's post marked his 10 places with growing history, from childhood playground to modern office. I'm sure that more interesting post will keep coming in the next couple days.
I invited Carol who is a popular female blogger in taiwan to help me separate the idea to Taiwan blogosphere, huge reactions were breeding on her blog, Certainly, I got the right connectors! I joked with her that whether we could collect all of these local information to print out a Taipei traveler guide for bloggers. quawn who is a talent web designer, and host a blog community oui-blog.com was kindly design a LOGO for this movement.
Also, there's another thing makes me so excited, watch out the collection of "10 places of my city", it seems that Chinese bloggers from all over the world are getting involved. they are locate in different countries, from Asia to North America. Two of my favorite bloggers in Japan had blogged Tokyo and Kagoshima. and I discovered more in United States, Boston, Bay Area, Ann Arbor and Milwaukee. Surprisingly, I received a comment from Gloria today, She is a blogger also lived in Dallas, Texas and even point out that my favorite coffee shop it's really close to her house. What a amazing blogging experience!
I still remember last Nov, Dan Gillmore visit Shanghai, after meet with Isaac and other Chinese Bloggers, he said that China Blogger's Emerge, But Not Too Loudly. I believes that things are going to be changed and more and more China blogger voices will come up to the stage. Last Dec in Harvard Beckman Center, through the Internet and Society Conference, Attendees create a project called "Globe Voice", the collaborative project focused on Globe free speech and communications. I'd think It's the good way to use Technorati Tag system separate the idea of Globe Voice.
Sorry for English readers that most of Bloggers blogged their "10 Places of My City" in Chinese. Sigh! no matter how big the voice is, the language barrier still exists.

There are some existing methods to integrate del.icio.us links with Movable Type Blog. Like use a third-party RSS feed tool to pull up a link list by insert a javascript to MT template or use a perl script to grab del.icio.us feed to a blog. I'd prefer Jeff Veen's way to automatically create a daily post from del.icio.us, this one need some coding works and may not fit for all hosting service. Joshua (who is inventor of del.icio.us) had released a small tool, it makes thing really simple to post a daily entry to MT through del.icio.us API. All you have to do is follow these simple instruction below:
First go to: http://del.icio.us/settings/$USERNAME/daily Change $USERNAME to your del.icio.us username. then add a new thingy, follow the description:
job_name is a name for the posting thingy
out_name is the login name for the site
out_pass is the password for the site
out_url is the xmlrpc url, probably like mt-xmlrpc.cgi
out_time is the GMT hour to post on, 0-23.
out_blog_id is the blog id #
out_cat_id is the optional category id #
That's it, del.icio.us will post daily link to your MT blog, and this tool works with blogger.com API too.

Today Six apart announced their new pricing for Movable Type, the most effective changes are in personal edition.
Free edition allows one author and three blogs, and the paid personal edition allow three authors and unlimited blogs. and there is a unlimited personal edition which offered unlimited author and blogs, the price is $99 which I think are making more sense than the old pricing. It seems not bad for Chinese Blogger who are using MT system, the free edition still allow users to create at most three blogs. Although the Author limitation still effect some bloggers to make decision for upgrade to 3.0, but for most of existing individual users, this offer should fill their needs mostly.

Here is the abstract of our speech in this coming CDF conference in UC berkeley. I'm still working on the PPT file.
Abstract
The blogging concept was first introduced in China in 2002. It grew rapidly and became popular in merely one year. In 2003, Social Networking and related applications started to surface in China. There are more than 300,000 people who are actively involved in Blogging and Social Networking sites. These new methods of self-expression and communication have started a new Internet trend in China. People are publishing their thoughts and experiences on Blog sites. Social Networking tools help them to establish new connections and enhance existing friendships.
Currently, blogging service providers are seeking new opportunities to commercialize their businesses. At the same time, they are adjusting their strategy to comply with evolving government regulations on Internet usage. Social Networking service providers are striving to find a profitable business model. What if we combine these two seemingly separate but yet fundamentally related concepts?
Blogging and Social Networking complement each other. Their value can potentially be multiplied through integration. Blogging improves the interaction of Social Networking users. Blogger communities become tighter and stronger via Social Networking. Naturally, this new breed of collaboration and communication application evolves into a personal portal.

Channel 9 was created by a group of engineers and "technology evangelists" at Microsoft that is convinced the software giant could do more to promote free discussion with outside developers. The name refers to the audio channel most airlines use to allow passengers to listen in on conversations between flight crew members. via news.com

Microsoft's developers launched
Channel 9 not only include video and audio content publish, also provide Wiki, Moblog, Forum etc. Pretty impressive. The name "Channel 9" inspired from Airline communication mechanism, on the audio track in airplanes, is the chatter between the pilot, co-pilot and control tower. This project initiate form MS's engineer Jeff and Scoble, they go around Microsoft campus with a video camera and do quick hallway interviews with people who are doing interesting stuff at MS and then post those clips on Channel 9. Actually many Microsoft employees are active Bloggers, it seems Microsoft to be a pretty open company, but the practice has gotten at least one worker in trouble. Longtime contract worker
Michael Hanscom was fired last year after his blog ran photos of Apple computers being delivered to Microsoft's main campus. Anyway, the "Channel 9" project would be a good example for employee interactive lives in giant company. No matter how people hate Microsoft, people who have a chance work on there still attractive.

I got an excellent birthday gift from my dad: a Nokia 6600 smart phone. This phone currently is not available in US market. Also, he brought me a Bluetooth headphone which is an offical accessories for 6600. Wow, I can't wait to set it up.
I am using T-mobile wireless service right now which provided GSM network. It works with Tri-band and SIM card, its mean if a phone includes tri-band and SIM card slot, the only thing you need to do is put the SIM card into the phone and turn it on. It will work mostly. But if a smart phone you want to use with powerful function like online surfing, mobblogging etc. There's more configuration should be set it up. I had done some research and finally figure it out how to set 6600 for T-mobile network. If anyone has a chance to get this phone and also use T-Mobile service. You probably could follow configuration below to set it up, it's worked perfectly with my moblog.
PS: Absolutely, This is not a April fool's day joke! :)

I was going to be a photoblogger before I start my blogging life, then i bought a Cannon G5 digital Camera.
At the first couple days, I was very enjoyed my photography experience. I took my camera with me everywhere, shot whole batch of pictures: landscape, animal, human portrait etc. But finally I realized I don't have that talent to be a photographer. Then I quit to concentrate in write my blog not shot my blog. So far I think I made a not bad decision.
My poor camera was sitting in the dark, exposing in the dust. Probably I should sell it on Ebay some time. But I was still interested in photoblogs. I was enjoied "The Best of Photoblogs 2003", those wonderful blog made me jealous so much. Thus, I am going to build up my own photoblog even if with my poor photography skill and indigent art sense.
